The Donkin Coal Mine in Cape Breton has committed several safety violations since reopening last fall.
The company that operates the mine known as Kameron Coal Management has been handed 8 administrative penalties, 19 compliance orders, and 14 warnings, dating back to September of 2022.
Some of the infractions include improperly storing compressed gas cylinders, bringing unapproved electrical equipment into the mine, and allowing an unqualified employee to conduct electrical work.
The Department of Labour Skills and Immigration will continue to perform regular inspections to ensure the mine is in compliance with health and safety regulations.
