Fatal crash under investigation in Lilydale

Lunenburg District RCMP is investigating a fatal crash that occurred in Lilydale over the weekend.

Emergency crews were called to Highway 324 around 11:15 a.m. on Sunday after reports of a single-vehicle crash. A Jeep Compass was found on its roof beside the road.

RCMP say the initial investigation indicates the SUV was heading south when it left the roadway, struck a tree, and overturned.

The driver, a 31-year-old woman from Lunenburg, was the only person in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A collision reconstructionist attended the scene and Highway 324 was closed for several hours as the investigation continued.

Police say the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
