Nova Scotia General Deer Season Opens Today

Today is the first day of the general deer hunting season in Nova Scotia, and hunters and fur harvesters are warned to be careful when handling wild game. In order to protect yourself from bacterial infections it is recommended to wear a mask and gloves when cleaning your kill and to work in a ventilated area. Make sure your game meat is thoroughly cooked and to clean any surfaces or tools that came into contact with the meat. Anyone that becomes ill after eating wild game could contact a healthcare provider right away.

The province would also like to remind hunters to ensure they have proper equipment before heading out and to make sure they inform someone where they are going and when they plan to return. People heading out into the bush during the open season are reminded to wear hunter orange, respect private landowners, and keep pets on a leash.

The general deer season runs until December 3rd
