No changes coming to Twin Oaks hospital after dispute between doctors and province

After a dispute with the provincial government, a group of physicians will stay on at Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital.

On May. 9, Dr. David Brandon and other doctors sent a letter to the government expressing concerns over new contract changes.

Minister of Health Michelle Thompson says they needed to clarify some details.

“We continue to clarify with physicians in the context of this new contract and and really helping understand the difference how, how that contract helps physicians in rural communities care for the entirety of their community in primary care, covering inpatient hospitals, inpatients In hospital, long term care, emergency departments, etc.,” Thompson told reporters on Thursday.

The changes would shift nurse-practitioners from the emergency department to a new role on the medical floor, and they would take on the title of “Most Responsible Health Care Provider,” according to Brandon’s letter.

The province wouldn’t get into the details of the contract, but a spokesperson for the health department says the doctors were willing to do a 6-month test run.

Thompson said the conversation will be ongoing between doctors and the department during that time.
