Fairwinds flotilla challenge ends fair and square

The ‘Hands Across the Bay’ Flotilla Challenge has ended in a tie between Canso and Port Hawkesbury.

The Bluenose II departed for Pictou Wednesday morning after visits to both harbours.

The two Quad County communities competed to see which would have the winning reception or farewell for Nova Scotia’s sailing ambassador.

Event organizers had ruled that due to Sunday’s weather, Canso would do a send-off instead for the competition.

A drone was used to count the vessels that showed up for the famous schooner’s Port Hawkesbury arrival and Canso departure.

According to a Lost Shores social media post, it was even, so each community receives a trophy.
