Harbour Wars coming up in Richmond County

Fishers are getting geared up for Harbour Wars to reel in support for an important cause in Lower L’Ardoise this weekend.

It’s to raise money for the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation’s Tom McNeil Cancer Patient Care Fund.

The annual event launches with Light up the Harbour on Friday.

Friendly competitions like dory races, a nautical obstacle race, the Cod Fish Shuffle, and Tub of War will take place in Little Harbour on Saturday.

Registration takes place that day at 9:30 a.m. and the event starts at 10:00 a.m.

New this year, is the Captains Challenge where captains will race to haul their gear and test their skills.

There will also be food, a 50/50 draw and free children’s activities.

Since its inception in 2019, Harbour Wars has raised more than $183,000 for the Tom McNeil Cancer Patient Care Fund.

The fund directly supports 75 to 100 patients at the Cape Breton Cancer Centre each month, by covering travel to specialist appointments, medications not covered by insurance, psychosocial support programs, and more.
