Bridges to close due to safety concerns, repairs to be done

Traffic could be impacted by two bridge closures in Port Hawkesbury.

The crossings are located at the intersection of Granville Street and Reeves Street, but concerns have been raised about the safety of the bridges.

Engineers recently inspected the structures and found significant deterioration, and found that repairs must be completed.

In a letter posted to social media, the town says advance notice of the closure date will be provided to the public.

The post also states that a controlled closure plan is being developed over the next week.

The Town expects the closure will be for an extended period of time.

Alternate routes will be available, and motorists are advised to allow extra time for travel.

Pedestrians will still be permitted to cross on a safe walking path that will be created on the single-lane bridge.

The town adds that there will be a plan for emergency services that need to cross during the closure.
