20 dogs rescued from fire in Hants County

Twenty dogs were rescued from a home in Hants County.

Fire broke out at a residence in Newport Station early Saturday night.

Brooklyn volunteer fire chief Brett Tatanish tells Acadia News, firefighters entered the home and brought out the dogs, one after another.

“The fire was contained to the kitchen area. The Avon Animal Hospital in Windsor sent three veterinarian technicians to triage and organize the medical care for the dogs,” said Tatanish.

One other dog did not make it, the surviving animals were taken to the vet clinic for further care.

Two neighbours tried to make entry to rescue the dogs, they were treated for smoke inhalation.

Tatanish says about 40 firefighters responded from Brooklyn, Windsor and Hantsport.

He says it was a true instance of the community coming together.
