StFX African Heritage Month celebrations

As African Heritage Month comes to close, Tara Reddick, the Black Student Advisor for StFX wants Nova Scotians to continue to support the African Nova Scotian community.

She says African Heritage Month is a time of celebration but also a time to think about the things that need to be done to ensure we live in an equitable society.

The campus recognized the month with a variety of different events both in person and virtual. Students had an opportunity to watch an African Heritage Month basketball tournament, listen to music poetry that celebrated African culture, and look at artwork made by African Nova Scotians.

They plan to wrap up the month with a special dinner at the meal hall tonight, with different foods from around the world. They will also be awarding students with Black Excellence T-Shirts.

The events saw a good turnout overall and the campus hopes to have more in person and accessible events for African Heritage Month next year.
