Nova Scotia NDP caucus calls for improved access to childcare

The Nova Scotia NDP is not impressed with the PC Governments efforts to open childcare spaces.

According to a statement from the party, families across Nova Scotia have struggled to find childcare and the NDP has accused the Houston Government of failing to deliver its promise to open 1500 new childcare spaces by the end of 2022.

“We hear from people all the time who are stuck without care for their children impacting their ability to work provide care for their family.” said NDP Education Early Childhood Development spokesperson Suzy Hansen. “As more families move to the province and parents are looking for work, we need to ensure they also have care for their children outside of the home.”

New information from the NSNDP determined that fewer than half of the promised childcare spaces have been established. only 686 new spaces have been established between July 2021 and December of 2022.
