28-year-old woman dies after truck hits tree

A 28-year-old woman died after her truck crashed into a tree.

A man and a woman were driving a GMC Canyon near the 12,000 block of Peggys Cove Road at about 7 a.m. The truck failed to make a turn and crashed into a tree, according o an RCMP news release.

The passenger of the vehicle, a 28-year-old woman from Hacketts Cove, died at the scene.

Police say the driver, a 29-year-old man from Glen Haven, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

The road was closed for several hours but later reopened.

Police say a collision reconstructionist attended the scene.

The investigation continues.
