Conservative say carbon tax for Atlantic Canadians a gut punch

The leader of the Conservatives says a carbon tax for Atlantic Canada would be hard on your bank account.

Leader Pierre Polievre says households in Nova Scotia will lose about $1,500 a year with the tax, when the price of rent and food is already a problem because of inflation.

“After eight years of Justin Trudeau, Atlantic Canadians are struggling. Already forced to choose between heating and eating, Justin Trudeau is delivering yet another gut punch with his costly carbon tax increase. According to the government’s own Parliamentary Budget Officer (PBO), most households will pay more in federal fuel charges and GST, and jobs will be put at risk.

Polievre says the Parliamentary Budget Officer’s report indicates Canadians will only be worse off and it won’t do much to cut emissions.

“Justin Trudeau is out of touch and Canadians are out of money. I will put an end to Trudeau’s inflationary taxes and spending, axe the carbon tax and make sure Canadians can afford to drive to work and put food on the table. It’s time to keep the heat on, and take the tax off. ”

The tax is slated to come into effect this summer.
