The province wants to make municipalities a little more pretty and create more jobs.
Nearly $1 million from the province will go toward two provincial programs that will create 41 projects.
The first, the Beautification and Streetscaping Program, is to enhance the beauty of communities and attract more visitors. A total of $569,968 will go toward 27 projects.
Fourteen projects through the Community Works Program will get $311,598 to create job opportunities for youth and those unemployed to gain skills and experience in their field.
“Investing in beautification projects helps make our communities more vibrant, fosters local pride and encourages economic development,” said Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister John Lohr. “The Community Works Program allows municipalities to hire people to work on community-focused projects, such as municipal planning, accessibility or landscaping projects.”
Both programs are application based and fund up to 50% of the cost of municipal projects, to a maximum of $25,000.
Since the Community Works Program started in 2019-2020, 63 people have been hired.
