Replacements coming for Country Harbour and Little Narrows Ferry

The Quad Counties are getting replacements for two ferries.

At an announcement today, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal Lloyd Hines, and Minister of Rural Economic Development Bernadette Jordan, said the Country Harbour Ferry in Guysborough County and the Little Narrows Ferry in Victoria County are being replaced with 15-car cable ferries.

Minster Hines says the Country Harbour Ferry upgrades will improve travel times for workers and emergency vehicles.

Minister Hines tells The Hawk the ferry is an important link for communities in the area.

“If that ferry were gone there would be almost a 30 kilometer detour that would be required,” says Minister Hines.

As well, Hines says the new ferries will produce less greenhouse gas emissions than the ferries they are replacing.

The Provincial and Federal Governments are contributing $6 million each to the project.
