Minor hockey coach facing charges after assaulting official

Upset in a minor hockey league over the weekend.

RCMP say a coach is facing charges after assaulting an official during a hockey game in Brookfield just before 11am Saturday.

The suspect left the rink before police arrived, but later turned himself in to the Stewiack detachment.

In a statement on their website, the South Colechester Minor Hockey Association says:

“It’s been a tough day for our SCMHA family.

We appreciate all of our caring coaches, dedicated referees, and supportive parents, who make hockey such a positive experience for our players.

Please know we are working with all of the appropriate organizations as we are directed, at this time.

We are still the same association, with the same genuine heart and dedication to do what is best for our kids.

Please reach out to any Board member if you or your player need support, we are here for you.

SCMHA Board of Directors”

The official was not injured.

The coach was released on conditions and will appear in court at a later date.
