Nova Scotians to receive carbon tax rebates Monday

Nova Scotians will receive the carbon tax rebate Monday.

It’s the first one of 2024.

The breakdown is $124 for a single adult, the second adult gets $62, then $31 for each child. It works out to be $248 for a family of four.

In order to receive the money, you would have had to submit a tax return.

Residents of rural communities, receive an extra 10% supplement, which will double to 20% in April due to their energy needs and lack of access to cleaner transportation.

Environment and Climate Change Canada says the carbon tax is part of the government’s commitment to cutting emissions by 40%, below 2005 levels, by 2030.

The carbon tax kicked in July 1, 2023.
