A new report on a sunken vessel off Yarmouth has raised a safety concern.
The ‘Atlantic Destiny’ sank in March, 2021 after an explosion that caused fire and flooding in the engine room.
The Transportation Safety Board says the automatic and manual activation of the engine safety system failed to prevent the engine speed from increasing beyond the design limits, which caused the fire.
The board says they’re concerned the crew were unaware of the requirements to use the CO2 fire suppression system, and weren’t formally trained.
There were 31 people on board, everyone was evacuated by Search and Rescue before the vessel sank the following day.
