Slow but steady progress to clear out Cape Breton after storm

The mayor of Cape Breton Regional Municipality, Amanda McDougall says the main roads and arteries are clear, but the main goal is to make roads passable.

On social media, McDougall says she knows progress may seem slow, but crews are working 24/7. She adds that the federal government has confirmed 200 Coast Guard cadets are in town to help if you are stranded.

McDougall says they have requested help from both the provincial and federal government and that five more snow blowers as well as a 6×6 plow are on the way.

She adds that the community has been amazing with social media posts and reports about people helping each other out.

The mayor says there has been some false information circulating and says to check the CBRM social media site for up-to-date information.

Meanwhile, The Nova Scotia Federation of Municipalities says they join the call for all orders of governments to continue to support recovery from last weekends snowfall.

President Carolyn Bolivar-Getson says, they recognize how critical coordinated efforts are in times of crisis and they extend their deepest appreciation to the hard-working municipal, provincial and federal employees, contractors and emergency responders.

She calls for solidarity as we move forward.
