Environment Canada has issued a winter storm watch for most of Nova Scotia, with a system set to pass south of the province Tuesday into Wednesday.
The national forecaster says 20-30 cm is expected by noon Wednesday, with winds gusting 60 to 70 km/h.
Environment Canada says a prolonged period of flurries and snow squalls are likely to develop over northern Cape Breton behind the storm and accumulating snow into Thursday.
