StFX mourns death of alumnus and former Prime Minister Mulroney

Xaverians are mourning the loss of Brian Mulroney who graduated from StFX in Antigonish in 1959.

In a release Thursday night, President Dr. Andrew Hakin said Canada’s 18th Prime Minister was “a remarkable individual, a visionary and a true champion” for the university.

He said Mulroney’s efforts transformed the campus and their academic mission spanning all facets of the student experience – from the Alumni Aquatic Centre to the Brian Mulroney Institute of Government.

Hakin said “Personally, I will always think with great affection and be grateful for the guidance and mentorship he provided me.”

Hakin added that the community will come together to pay their respects and more information will be shared in the days ahead.

Meanwhile on Friday in a social media post, StFX invited the community to sign a book of condolence, located in the replica Prime Minister’s Office in Mulroney Hall March 1st to 3rd from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and March 4th to 6th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
