Crews are on the scene checking for hot spots following a forest fire on the Old Mulgrave Road near Frankville.
They returned at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, after breaking overnight. They had been fighting the fire since 2 p.m. Monday.
The fire peaked at 200 hectares Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning.
The most recent update from the province says the fire is under control.
22 provincial wildfire crew, a helicopter and 31 volunteer firefighters from 6 local fire departments, Havre Boucher, Aulds Cove, Tracadie, Mulgrave, Port Hastings, and Pomquet, are on the scene.
Early Tuesday, Havre Boucher Fire Chief Chris Grover told The Hawk they continue to work, and it’s good news the fire hasn’t grown.
He said there’s no word on what started the fire yet.
At a press conference Tuesday afternoon, Lands and Forestry Minister Iain Rankin said it’s too early to make a determination on the impact it will have on the woodland or tree harvesting in the area.
Environment Canada has issued a special air quality statement; it indicates smoke from the fire is causing reduced visibility and air quality in the surrounding areas.
