CBRM mayor Amanda McDougall to not re-offer in upcoming election

The mayor of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality will not be reoffering in the upcoming municipal election.

Amada McDougall made the announcement in a post on Facebook, Thursday.

“I again, am so proud of the legacy of being CBRM’s first female mayor. I know the importance of that for the many young women I’ve been able to meet and hopefully inspire and hopefully encourage them to take on roles of leadership…over the past four years.”

She reflected on the past four years and says she’s ‘grateful’ and ‘proud’ of CBRM’s community for surviving and thriving past weather events like Fiona and the recent snowstorms.

McDougall says she is going to focus on the role of being ‘mom’.

“My family have sacrificed a lot…my husband and my boys.”

The municipal elections will be in October.
