Young girl has serious injuries after being hit by truck

A child has serious injuries after being hit by a truck while playing on the side of the road in Victoria County.

RCMP say it was Tuesday evening when the driver of a Ford F-150 fell asleep at the wheel, veered across Pierro Lane and hit the girl who was on a small, ride on toy.

The girl, who is under the age of ten, was taken to hospital.

The driver, a 47-year-old Wagmatcook man was not hurt.

He was charged with Failing to Drive or Operate a Motor Vehicle in a Careful and Prudent Manner under the Motor Vehicle Act.

RCMP say, at this time, speed and alcohol are not believed to be a factor.
