Residential tax rates stay put in Inverness County

Good news for property owners.

The residential tax rate will remain the same for the Municipality of Inverness County, for the sixth year in a row.

At its regular meeting Thursday night, council had fixed the 2024-25 budget at $24,987,100.

The municipality says cost-of-living challenges was top of mind and maintaining the rate was high priority.

They say according to a recent provincial report, residential tax in the municipality is at the more affordable end of the spectrum, considering the national average.

Warden Bonny MacIsaac, says they kept a balanced budget without cutting services, while dealing with pressure over “significant” increases in cost with things that are mandatory.

This includes education, policing and provincial roads.

There will be additional resources to focus major areas of focus, including food security-something the municipality says is complex and urgent.
