Local emergency department reopens, another to temporarily close

People in the Guysborough area needing emergency care tonight can stay closer to home than expected.

After announcing last week that Guysborough Memorial Hospital’s emergency department would be closed tonight, Nova Scotia Health is out with a updated list of closures, saying the department will now be open.

The emergency department was scheduled to close overnight, from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m., because no doctor was available; a doctor has since been found to cover the shift.

Meanwhile, the Strait Richmond Hospital closed it’s emergency department doors Wednesday night. It’ll reopen Friday morning at 8 a.m..

The Strait Richmond Hospital will also close Friday night from 7 p.m. to Saturday morning at 8 a.m..

The temporary closures are due to a “lack of physician coverage,” according to Nova Scotia Health.
