‘Debby’ to bring rain to parts of Maritimes this weekend

‘Debby’ is going to bring rain to some of the Maritimes.

Environment Canada predicting the post-tropical storm will track through Quebec and northwest New Brunswick tomorrow into Saturday.

Meteorologist Jennifer Smith says there could be impactful rainfall in these areas.

“Keep in mind, regardless of the path the centre of the storm takes, impacts can be felt away from that centre,” said Smith.

Rain could total anywhere from 50 to 100 millimetres.

Gusty winds below warning criteria can also be expected.

Smith says Nova Scotia will be spared from major impacts.

Meteorologist Nathan Gillett says climate change is contributing to more major rainfall events in Canada.

“And on the North American and global scale. We’re seeing an intensification of the heaviest precipitation events, and that’s expected to increase in the future,” said Gillett.

No warnings are currently in place for Debby’s arrival.

The path of ‘Debby’ as of 12 p.m. on August 8, 2024 (Canadian Hurricane Centre)
