Man who fled West Bay Crash charged by RCMP

A man has been charged with multiple offenses following a crash in West Bay that left a passenger injured.

On August 17th, emergency responders were called to the scene of a single-vehicle accident near Riverside Road and Cenotaph Road in West Bay.

The passenger was found trapped inside the vehicle and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. First responders were able to free them when they arrived and they were then taken to the hospital for treatment.

The driver, who had fled on foot before authorities arrived, was believed to be injured as well.

After an extensive search, which included a K-9 unit and ground search teams, the driver remained at large until August 22nd.

He was located in Sampsonville after being reported as a suspicious person and was arrested after giving a false name.

The man now faces charges related to dangerous driving, fleeing the scene of an accident, obstructing justice, and violating probation.

He was taken into custody and appeared in court on August 26th.
