Ski Ben Eoin to receive $300,000 for upgrades

Cape Breton wants to attract more tourists in the winter.

That’s why the not-for-profit Ski Ben Eoin is getting $300,000 from all three levels of government, according to a news release.

The Cape Breton Municipality paid $50,000 for the project. The province paid $125,000, and the feds will pay $125,000.

Mike Kelloway, MP for Cape Breton and Canso made the announcement today.

The money will help make the snow-making system more efficient and able to work at warmer winter temperatures, the release said.

They also plan to install LED lights to improve night skiing and to replace the lift chair.

Robert MacNeill, the president of the Cape Breton Ski Club, says this will help the business adjust to global warming.
