Mulgrave Youth Council Members Idea Comes to Fruition

The Town of Mulgrave started a youth council last fall and has been very successful so far.

Mulgrave councilor Krista Luddington stated that the only youth council member Victoria Cook, has served the position very well and has worked tirelessly to connect with other youth in the community.

Cook brought up the idea of painting rainbow crosswalks in the community to show how Mulgrave is a welcoming and inclusive place. She not only organized the project but also budgeted the cost to make this project a reality. “It was to teach her how to take on a project, she had seen it through from start to finish from doing the pitch to council, to doing the leg work.” says Luddington.

The first of these crosswalks was finished earlier today near McNairs Cove Park. There are plans to paint more crosswalks in the community this fall. The goal is to paint a crosswalk near the legion and one near the post office.

The youth council was started to give young residents an opportunity to connect with town council and to voice their ideas or concerns. The town is expected to put out a call for new youth council members at the beginning of next mouth, the call will be posted on the Mulgrave Recreation Department and the Krista Luddington-Mulgrave Town Council Facebook pages.
