Antigonish Area Expected to Benefit from Federal Hurricane Relief Fund

In response to the creation of the federal Hurricane Fiona Relief Fund, the County and Town of Antigonish are encouraged to hear that the federal government is planning to help with recovery efforts. The Town and County did suffer severe damage to properties from the storm. “We’ve been with closely with our two MP’s Sean Fraser and Mike Kelloway over the last week or so and we conveyed the urgency for federal help and this is really good news for our area.” Says County Warden Owen McCarron.

The municipalities will access the damage to determine how the funding will be used to cover the cost of repairs and what will be repaired with the funding. Clean up efforts are still underway in the Town and County and the clean ups could take weeks or even months to complete. McCarron says community members have been very patient and have worked hard to support one another during the recovery.

McCarron also hopes to have power restored to customers in the next few days.
