Nova Scotia Liberals Calling for the Release of Home Heating Funds

As the cold winter months approach, The Nova Scotia Liberal Party is calling on the Houston Government to ensure Nova Scotians are able to afford heating their homes. The Federal Government has announced $60 million dollars will go towards helping Nova Scotians transition to greener heating options and the provincial Liberals have accused the governing PC’s for not releasing home heating funds.

A report from the party stated that other provinces have successful programs to help lower- and middle-income people cover the cost of heat pumps, and with a carbon tax on the horizon, time is of the essence to get supports in place for Nova Scotians who will be faced with drastic heating costs this winter. Liberal Leader Zach Churchill says there is no time to waste getting money out the door to help Nova Scotians stay warm.

Rural communities in Nova Scotia are especially reliant on oil to heat their homes and 1 in 5 homes in Bridgewater are in energy poverty because of rising costs.
