New Home for Pictou West Food Bank

The Pictou West Food Bank is getting a new home.

The Nova Scotia Progressive Conservative Government is investing $245,000 to help the organization relocate to a more accessible building to better meet community needs. “Volunteers at the Pictou West Food Bank do an incredible job supporting the community, but they’re facing a growing demand, and they need a more suitable home.” Says Pictou West MLA Karla MacFarlane.

The food bank has operated in the basement of the Pictou Town Hall for the past 20 years, but it lacks elevator access and proper washrooms. The plan is to move the food bank to a 604 square foot facility in Downtown Pictou with a fully equipped kitchen and walk in refrigeration unit.

The provincial investment will also allow the food bank to offer new programs while providing more access to healthy local food. The new location will offer the potential for a soup kitchen and a place to host food nutrition workshops.
