In the midst of a housing and healthcare crisis, there is hope for healthcare workers in need of a place to call home. The province is putting $8 Million towards modular housing projects to provide affordable housing in communities where housing options are limited.
“We need healthcare workers, and we know some communities are having challenges recruiting and retaining them due to limited housing options.” says John Lohr, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing. “The modular housing model has been successful in other jurisdictions. This investment will help support our healthcare workers with transitional housing until more permanent solutions are available.”
The province will partner with the Housing Trust of Nova Scotia to place temporary mobile modular homes in areas where there is acute demand.
“The Housing Trust of Nova Scotia is pleased to be part for this initiative and working with government and other stakeholders to address the housing needs of healthcare professionals.” says, Executive Director Angela Bishop. “Modular housing will allow us to respond quickly to the demand for housing needs in areas of greatest need”
The Government recently announced 65 continuing care assistants have conditional job offers to come to Nova Scotia from Kenya and nurses graduating universities and colleges in our province over the next five years will be offered jobs.
A total of 107 doctors started working in Nova Scotia between April 1st and November 30th.
