The Province of Nova Scotia is one step closer to having a higher minimum wage.
The province accepted recommendations from the Minimum wage review committee that includes setting the minimum wage at $15,00 an hour.
The current minimum wage is $13,60 an hour and it will increase twice this year to $14,50 on April 1st before finally settling at $15,00 an hour on October 1st.
Minister of Labour, skills and immigration Jill Balser says the minimum wage rate impacts the lives and workers of businesses and they understand the rising cost of inflation has been difficult for both.
The Minimum Wage Review Committee is comprised of employee and employee representatives. Under the Labour Standards Code, the committee is mandated to conduct an annual review of the minimum wage in Nova Scotia.
Starting on April 1st of next year the minimum wage rate will be adjusted annually based on the national consumer province index, another recommendation from the committee.
