Islanders Defenceman Cohen Pictou Awarded NS Mi’kmaw Male Athlete of the Year

Cape Breton West U18 Islanders Defenceman, Cohen Pictou, has been named Mi’kmaw Sport Council Hall of Fame’s 2023 Male Athlete of the Year.

He has showcased himself at different levels in the sports of basketball and hockey.

With hockey being his first sport, he’s into his third and final season with his CBW U18 Islanders team. Pictou also represented Team Atlantic at this year’s National Aboriginal Hockey Championships in Winnipeg, where he was named Assistant Captain for the second year in a row.

In addition to hockey, Pictou recently participated in the 2023 North American Indigenous Games as a starting player on the Team Mi’kmaw NS 19U basketball team.

Aside from Pictou’s athletic accomplishments, he continues to be a high performer in his educational studies as well, maintaining an 80+ average going into his senior year in high school.
