Cape Bretoners continue to dig out from a massive winter storm.
About 100 centimetres of snow fell in Richmond County, roads are slowly opening.
Warden Amanda Momberquette says it’s been a challenging time.
“Main arteries are open now, some of the side roads are in better condition and are opened, but there are still some roads that aren’t open,” said Momberquette.
She says they are a tight-knit community, and there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Momberquette says local fire departments have been helping vulnerable residents shovel out.
“Thank you to them, and all those who are helping during this difficult time. You are doing the right thing for your neighbours.”
Momberquette says services like garbage pick-up have been rescheduled.
She adds the municipal office is back open, so if anyone has questions they can reach out.
The focus is now on local roads. All highways, routes and trunks are open to at least one lane.
