If you operate an Airbnb, Expedia or any other short-term rental, you now have more time to get used to new regulations on the way.
The province says the deadline to register has been extended to September, to allow hosts and visitors time to adapt to the new changes coming this fall, including higher fees and enforcement.
Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, John Lohr says, it’s in an effort to help make more long-term housing available.
“These are comprehensive changes that require careful planning and coordination. We want to ensure people can plan for the season ahead while this important work progresses.”
Since April of 2020, operators have been required to register with the province who rent for 28 days or less.
As of last spring, that now includes rentals within a host’s primary residence.
There are more than 6,400 registered short-term accommodations in Nova Scotia.
