Federal funding for seniors’ projects in Inverness County

Eight community-based seniors’ projects in Inverness County are getting federal funding.

MP Mike Kelloway announced the investment of $154,095 to help seniors stay active, informed and socially connected.

It was awarded following proposals through the New Horizons Seniors Program.

These are the funding recipients, according to a government release:

  • Belle Côte & Area Community Centre – Install a new roof to allow seniors to continue providing a safe space for social activities such as aerobics, crafts and special events for seniors and the community.
  • L’Acabie – Provide transportation to seniors and vulnerable persons to activities and events in the community.
  • Acadian Women’s Association of Cheticamp – Provide seniors with engagement and meals to improve nutritional and mental health and combat social isolation.
  • Le Club des Retraites de Cheticamp – Renovate the floor in the community kitchen to allow seniors to continue to offer activities such as suppers and brunches.
  • St. Joseph’s Parish – Renovate the ramp, steps, door and washroom to allow seniors to continue to offer activities such as card games and gatherings
  • Skye Glen & Centreville Community Hall Association – Renovations to improve accessibility to the hall, and programing after the improvements are made.
  • Societe Mi-Careme – Put on shows & entertainment for seniors in homes and care facilities to help combat social isolation.
  • Mill Road Social Enterprises Association – Seniors involved with the organization will plan and facilitate meal delivery and greenhouse programs alongside staff to provide food and social inclusion to seniors in the community.
