Isle Madame receives Lieutenant Governor’s Community Spirit Award

The lieutenant governor has recognized Isle Madame for its power, strength and diversity.

His Honour Arthur J. LeBlanc presented the Lieutenant Governor’s Community Spirit Award at the D’Escousse Civic Improvement Society Hall on Saturday.

Isle Madame was one of four communities in Nova Scotia chosen to receive this honour in 2024.

Richmond County’s Volunteer of the Year, Ronnie LeBlanc accepted the award on behalf of area residents

LeBlanc said, “Our local businesses survive because of volunteers bringing events to our island. ATV runs, Acadian festivals, motor bike rallies, yacht club festivals, Celtic Colours concerts, baseball events, and many more. Communities working together, cultures working together, everyone helping each other. Isle Madame is such a great place to live, raise a family, do business, and visit. We are so lucky to live here! Thank you to all the volunteers who give their time to help each other. I was humbled to accept the Lieutenant Governor’s Community Spirit Award on behalf of all volunteers on Isle Madame.”

According to a release, the event was emceed by retired educator and community volunteer, David Forgeron.

Guest speakers included MLA for Richmond, the Honourable Trevor Boudreau, representing the Department of Communities, Culture, Tourism, and Heritage; President of La Picasse, Centre Communautaire Culturel, Rochelle Heudes; and the lieutenant governor.

Isle Madame’s nomination package highlighted a community that has been able to build upon its strengths including “a fierce work ethic, sense of community, and willingness to take on big projects that come from our ancestors who made their living on the sea.”
