The province is spending more than $1 million in grants toward five community organizations in Inverness County.
The money will go to upgrading buildings or equipment.
The North Inverness Recreation Centre Association in Cheticamp is getting $853,535 for the Cabot Trail Arena.
They will get a new Zamboni, heat pumps, side boards around the ice surface and other small equipment upgrades.
Board member, Ken Muise says, they sincerely thank the province and local credit union for their generous contributions.
“The Cabot Trail Arena, a community hub since the late 70’s, operates with minimal staff and dedicated volunteers. Completing capital projects would be impossible without government support, and this investment will provide much-needed improvements for future generations.”
The Dr. Bernie MacLean Cultural and Recreation Centre will get $150,644 for a new warm room, a comfortable space for viewing what is happening in the arena.
The Centre has been heavily used by the community for more than 50 years for various events like hockey, figure skating, concerts and community gatherings.
This money is in addition to a $430,000 provincial investment they received in the summer, for a brand-new steel roof.
Others receiving grants include:
– Acadie Grouille Fitness Centre, Chéticamp – $37,000- to purchase new training and fitness equipment
– Inverness Basketball Association –$8,300- to purchase equipment.
