Mistrial for Port Hawkesbury couple facing sex charges involving minor

The trial of a Port Hawkesbury couple facing sex charges involving a minor has been postponed.

The province’s public prosecution service wouldn’t confirm with our newsroom why a mistrial was declared for Daryl and Shelley Digout, however, according to CBC it was due to a conflict of interest with the judge.

The Digouts were charged in May 2023, for an alleged incident in 2020.

They then went missing but were found weeks later in Richmond County.

The Digouts previously pleaded not guilty to failing to appear in court, being at large, sexual assault, sexual interference and sexual exploitation and chose to represent themselves.

Scheduling for a new trial is still to be determined.
