Mini-Pitch ready for use on Appleseed Drive in Antigonish

A new free, accessible and inclusive space to play in Antigonish.

The Antigonish Scotiabank Mini-Pitch, a nearly $1 million project, is now open thanks to a generous donation from Scotiabank alongside investments from government partners.

The County contributed $500,000, the Town $300,000, the province $150,000 and the Strait Regional Centre for Education donated the land.

According to a media release from the Town and County, it features a sport tile surface, with side panels, soccer goals and basketball hoops as well as an additional space for free play.

Not only that, located on Appleseed Drive, it is a convenient spot near local schools and neighbourhoods.

County Warden Nicholas MacInnis says it is a fantastic addition to the community.

“The Antigonish Scotiabank Mini-Pitch offers fun, inclusive and accessible opportunities for children, youth and families. We’re excited to see this project come to fruition and encourage everyone to check out this new facility.”

Town mayor Sean Cameron echoes this enthusiasm.

“[It] is an incredible addition to our community, creating a space where children and youth can gather and play in a safe and inclusive environment. This project reflects the spirit of collaboration and community that makes Antigonish so special. We are grateful to Scotiabank and our partners for their commitment to making this vision a reality.”

Antigonish resident Trevor Reddick also says he is very excited and thankful.

“The Mini-Pitch will provide a safe and accessible space for free play opportunities for our local youth…some of whom may not have access to other facilities for various reasons.”

The grand opening is slated for the spring.
