Snowfall and coastal flooding alert issued for Inverness and surrounding areas

Inverness County, including Mabou and the Highlands, is under a Snowfall Warning as a prolonged period of snowfall continues.

By Friday afternoon, the region could see an additional 15 to 25 cm of snow.

Gusty winds are expected to accompany the snowfall, leading to blowing snow and reduced visibility, particularly over higher terrain. The snowfall is forecast to taper off to flurries by Friday morning, but challenging driving conditions are likely to persist.

A Special Weather Statement is also in effect for the north-facing shores of eastern Cape Breton.

Large waves, pounding surf, and elevated sea levels could lead to coastal flooding, especially during high tide on Friday.

The storm surge could cause shore erosion and damage to coastal infrastructure in vulnerable areas.

Conditions are expected to improve by Saturday morning, but residents are advised to remain vigilant and monitor updates from Environment Canada.
