The province is making it easier for mental health and addictions groups to get funding.
They can now apply for up to $250,000 per year for up to three years.
Alison O’Handley with the Healthy Minds Cooperative says it helps them focus on their work.
“So having that commitment over three years as opposed to year-to-year, or six months at a time, is huge for organizations like us,” said O’Handley.
O’Handley says the funding will help them expand their mental health peer support groups.
She says the funding is a wonderful step in the right direction.
Shaleen Jones, Executive Director of Eating Disorders Nova Scotia, says it’s a big help.
“This funding really allows us to broaden and deepen our impact and support even more people,” said Jones.
She says treating mental health early on helps keep people out of clinics and hospitals.
The province says the funding will go to 23 community organizations for a total of $13.8 million.
