A house and a car from a property in Glendale were destroyed by fire over the weekend.
In a social media post, The West Bay Road and District Volunteer Fire Department say they had two separate calls for the fire on the same property, with the first that came in Saturday afternoon.
Due to a dry hydrant in Glendale, the chief says they had to call in other departments to help from Port Hastings, Louisdale and Whycocomagh.
“At this time, as our chief of department, I want to thank the members of Port Hastings helping with Fire Suppression and shuttling water as well as the members from Louisdale and Whycocomagh assisting with water shuttling,” says the chief.
The structures survived, but the chief says after years of calling on the Municipality of Inverness to fix the hydrant, he is now asking on community members of Glendale and Kingston to contact their local councillor and CAO about the lack of emergency water supply.
In a second post, hours later, the chief says they had to call in more resources in the overnight hours, Sunday, when the house and car were on fire again.
This time they were heavily damaged, but no injuries reported.
The fire has been deemed suspicious.
