UPDATE : Power restored in areas of Cape Breton after 24 hours

A frustrating weekend without power for some Cape Breton residents.

Areas of Inverness, Whycocomagh, Mabou and more lost power around 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

As many as 11,000 customers were affected, Nova Scotia Power called it a ‘transmission interruption.’

Crews worked overnight into Sunday, and restored some areas.

But they had to shut off power again to fix the Whycocomagh outage, the lights came on for everyone mid-afternoon Sunday.

Nova Scotia Power apologized for the disruption to the summer weekend.

Inverness MLA Kyle MacQuarrie thanked citizens and local event organizers for their positivity and resilience during the outage.
