Home lost, two men in hospital after fire in North Grant

One home is destroyed and two men were sent to a hospital for inhaling smoke after a house fire in North Grant, north of Antigonish.

Firefighters were called to a two-story home on Highway 245 around 6 p.m. Monday, according to Four Valleys Volunteer Fire Department Chief George DeRabbie.

Flames were showing on all four sides of the building when his department arrived, he said.

They called for mutual aid and several trucks from the Antigonish County Volunteer Fire Department.

The RCMP, EHS and the Department of Natural Resources staff were also on scene.

Fire crews left just before 11 p.m.

Officials are investigating to determine the cause, DeRabbie said.
