Team Nova Scotia could break medal record at Canada Games

A big haul so far for Team Nova Scotia in St. John’s.

Through the first week of competition at the Canada Games, our province won 49 medals, that’s good for fourth in the country.

Chef de mission with Team Nova Scotia Cathy Burton says she couldn’t be more proud.

“First week athletes battled through incredibly hot temperatures and smoky air, with changes to venues and schedules due to the wildfires here. But they’ve been courageous and have given it their all,” said Burton.

Burton says we’ve done well in the water with canoe/kayak events, and our women’s basketball team won their first medal in 20 years.

She expects a lot more excitement, as N.S. tries to break its summer games medal record of 56.

“We just had a big win in men’s lacrosse, we beat B.C. for the first time in eight years. We’re hoping for another big week so we can crack that 56 number.”
