Remembering veterans in Port Hawkesbury

A new crosswalk to honour local veterans is now in Port Hawkesbury.

The red and white striped crosswalk says, “Lest we forget”.

It goes across the MacSween Street entranceway to the provincial building.

There’s a sign to commemorate veterans from Port Hawkesbury and the Strait Region.

Improvements to the Remembrance Day ceremony were discussed at council last month.

“Ultimately with the goal to not have traffic [noise] interrupting the ceremony, which has been something that many people asked for after every ceremony,” says Mayor Brenda Chisholm-Beaton.

“We are hoping to seek a remedy to a longstanding issue.”

The Town is asking for approval to close Reeves Street around the cenotaph during the ceremony this year.
