Revamp of waterfront moves ahead for Port Hawkesbury

Another step forward for the Port Hawkesbury waterfront development.

Council has approved that the Town of Port Hawkesbury support the Strait Area Yacht Club Project by seeking funding opportunities for the project.

Mayor Brenda Chisholm-Beaton shared the benefits of giving the waterfront a makeover as she thinks it an important puzzle piece for the future of the Town of Port Hawkesbury.

“It will be about attracting new revenue streams. It’s going to be about continuing to cultivate, um, the waterfront as a working waterfront, but also as a tourism destination,” she explained.

Chisholm-Beaton says it’s important to balance the different needs of the waterfront.

“Figuring out what’s that right interconnectedness with the coexistence between being a working waterfront and being a destination, and not just for our residents, but also for visitors,” she expressed.

It is unclear what the next phase will be, but they are in the second year of the five-year plan which includes updating both infrastructure and the marina.
